Closing date for applications: 1 August 2008
Applications are invited from secondary school teachers
(via Head of Chemistry and Head of Science) for grants
from the NZIC Chemical Education Trust to promote
the teaching of chemistry in their school. For the
2008 distribution, grants of around $400 are envisaged,
but greater or lesser amounts can be applied for.
Applications must include full details of the item(s)
for which funding is requested together with an up-to-date
quotation, and sent by the closing date to:

An NZIC-sponsored one-stop website for secondary
school chemistry teachers has been launched.
ChemTeach, at www.chemteach.ac.nz,
has been set up by a team from the University of Canterbury
(UC) in conjunction with the New Zealand Institute
of Chemistry (NZIC) Specialist Education Group and
Victoria University of Wellington.
Designed to be a comprehensive source of information
for chemistry teachers, the site offers a range of
teaching resources and assessment tools as well as
information about chemistry education initiatives,
events, competitions, news and links to other relevant
websites.

Council is delighted to announce that the chemical
education award has been renamed, with permission,
in honour of Denis Hogan former editor of CHEM NZ
and NZIC Registrar from 1961-1988.
From 2007 it will be known as The Denis Hogan Chemical
Education Award.
